After months of the VA dropping the ball on shit for my leg, I insisted on an in person appointment with my doc. Finally got the sit down with her last week. To her credit she apologized profusely for all of the issues because she just didn’t quite understand what was going on with my leg since she hadn’t seen me in person in a 1.5 years and there was a lot of negative progress in the meantime. Lots of consults were placed, x-ray orders, and finally got my MRI scheduled that was supposed to be done 3 months ago but kept getting screwed up.
During the appointment I asked for labs because unlike the normal level of exhaustion that I’ve been dealing with since I don’t sleep well, I had hit a whole new ridiculous level of exhaustion to where just going into another room or cooking a meal was exhausting, obviously not normal. Labs came back bad. Turns out I’m severely anemic. My ferritin (iron stores) was at an 18 (normal is 44). What’s worse is that in December when they ran labs it was already low at 32 and I was never notified and no interventions were started then to try to correct the issue before it got so much worse. Last time my levels were this low was right after I had my daughter and it took a blood transfusion and months of supplements to correct. Since my H&H were ok, we’re just adding iron supplements along with a few others to help my body absorb the iron more efficiently. If it’s not one thing, it’s another some days.
